Shutterstock has agreed to acquire GIPHY for $53 million from Meta after a UK regulator forced the sale. Meta is taking a huge loss as a result of the sale as it paid around $400 million for GIPHY.
Much like Facebook, Instagram has now enabled the ability for users to comment on posts using GIFs, which will be enabled from today. The feature allows users to select GIFs from Giphy to post.
Meta is to sell Giphy following a decision by the UK's Competition and Markets Authority to prevent the acquisition. The CMA had several competition concerns, such as Meta restricting access to GIFs.

The UK Competition Appeal Tribunal has dealt a heavy blow to Meta in its $400 million acquisition of Giphy, ruling that other regulators were correct to raise their antitrust concerns.
