Microsoft has tapped the Linux distro Mariner as its host OS of choice to power Xbox storefronts across console, PC, mobile, and Xbox Cloud Gaming. It has successfully migrated PlayFab already.

Microsoft had a ton of stuff to announce at the Game Developers Conference 2022 including worldwide availability of the ID@Azure program, updates to PlayFab services, and improvements in the cloud.
Gaming backend provider PlayFab, whose services are used by the likes of Bandai Namco, Capcom, and Disney, has been acquired by Microsoft in an effort to bolster the latter's gaming efforts.
