The first teaser trailer for The Dark Eye: Chains of Satinav has been released. Currently in development by Deep Silver and Daedalic Entertainment, the developers behind games like Tales of Monkey Island, Sacred 2: Fallen Angel, S.T.A.L.K.E.R. and Dead Island, the game brings classic point and click gameplay to one of Europe's most popular RPG settings.
Mixing hand drawn backgrounds with stylized 3D models, the game puts you in the shoes of a young boy caught in the midst of a plague of violent crow attacks. With the help of a mystical companion called Nuri, the adventure promises to take you beyond the borders of the known world as you face mind boggling puzzles and an intimately crafted storyline.
Due out March 23, the game is set in the Dark Eye universe, the same setting that's been used before in games such as Realms of Arkania and, most recently, the Drakensang series. The Dark Eye is one of the most popular pen & paper RPGs in continental Europe, beyond even Dungeons & Dragons, although it's virtually unknown to English speakers outside of its various video game incarnations.
Chains of Satinav is a drastic departure from the usual pen & paper inspired fare, so it's going to be very interesting to see how it plays out. In the meantime, you can see the trailer (in German) below.
