Earlier this year, it was revealed that Sony Pictures Animation is working on a movie based on Emojis. The concept of the animated movie was received rather harshly by people, many of whom complained that Hollywood was "running out of ideas" and that this movie was going to bomb. Now, it appears that these suspicions weren't exactly unfounded as the teaser trailer for The Emoji Movie has been released and it seems to be as lackluster as the premise of the movie itself.

The minute-long teaser trailer dedicates most of its screen time to the "Meh" Emoji, which announces the movie in its droning voice. The trailer also shows off a couple of other Emojis including the ice cream, cookie, and poop Emoji.
The teaser trailer has been received negatively by viewers with most YouTube uploads getting more than eight times as many dislikes as likes. Many have expressed discontent over the lack of creativity, and how it seems that even the movie itself is unenthusiastic about its premise.
The Emoji Movie is directed by Anthony Leondis, whose has worked on many animated movies and cartoons in the past, including Igor, Lilo & Stitch 2: Stitch Has a Glitch, and Kung Fu Panda: Secrets of the Masters, among others. The Emoji Movie is slated for an August 4, 2017 release, in 3D.
