Why was Take Two® removed?

Thought this might be of interest to the people that wondered why Take Two was suddenly removed from version 5.1 of Roxio Easy CD Creator (Editions). Why was Take Two® removed from Easy CD Creator Platinum 5.1 and disabled by upgrading to Easy CD Creator 5.1 or higher?

Take Two®* was developed when the Window 95 operating system and smaller hard drives were the rule. As hard disk drives grew in size it became evident that Take Two was not the best backup solution. In the case of some newer CD burners, that use USB or PCMCIA, we also found that there weren't any DOS based drivers.

Since our software does its file verification and restore from DOS, on these systems the software was rendered useless. We have experienced numerous problems with Take Two in Windows 2000 and then in our testing under Windows XP, it became evident that users would not have a good experience with the application.

For users who have created a back up with Take Two:

  • You should make a bootable floppy from within Take Two to use in the future if you ever want to restore form the back up set. We also recommend verifying the backup before running the upgrade (use the boot floppy to verify.)

  • You will not be able to restore individual files from the back up set once you update, a full restore will be the only option available. If you want to restore individual files you should do it before you update.

  • If you do a restore in the future, it will restore your system to the point at which you created the back up set. All changes since that point will be erased, including the installation of the 5.1 (or higher) update.
*Take Two® is not compatible with Windows® XP. When the 5.1 upgrade is available for Easy CD Creator® and if you upgrade from version 5.0x to 5.1 this feature will be removed. The 5.1 upgrade will remove Take Two® from all Windows OS's. The final release of Easy CD Creator® 5.1 will no longer include Take Two®. Take Two® is a backup program that was included in Easy CD Creator® 4 Deluxe and Easy CD Creator® 5 Platinum prior to the 5.1 release.

So now you know :) Thanks Vla for the heads up and link to this resource.
