Recently, companies have been pushing out phones with screens that go over to the side edges of the phone, so much so that they don't have physical buttons. Both Huawei and Vivo have done this in a similar way, but Xiaomi seems to be planning to go even further.
As mentioned by well-known leakster Ice Universe on Twitter, the company is teasing a new smartphone under the name MIX Alpha. Based on the image posted, it seems that the screen actually goes all the way around the edges of the phone, going so far as enabling the phone to use those edges to display time. The poster seems to show the phone in the middle of books on a shelf, with the edge screen imitating the appearance of a book spine.
The leakster goes as far as suggesting that the screen may actually go around to the back of the phone, though the images don't unequivocally showcase that. A major concern that some may raise with this idea is touch rejection for a screen that is constantly in contact with the user, but Vivo seems to have done a decent job on that front.
Based on the poster, it seems Xiaomi will unveil this phone on September 24, the same day as it's planning to launch the Xiaomi Mi 9 Pro 5G. That phone is coming with 30W wireless charging, which would be the fastest wireless charging in any phone, slightly ahead of the 27W on the Huawei Mate 30 Pro.
